Jonathan Cox jumped in quickly to help solve a long standing issue relating to the final accounting of a probate court filing. He explained clearly the materials he needed from me and, with that information, made a call to discuss the matter with the court official. After that call, Jonathan emailed me corrected documents which I then filed with the court. I am happy to say that the final accounting has now been approved because of his and his team's efforts. Jonathan was efficient, understood the problem immediately, and made the final process easier. Jonathan was a pleasure to work with and I recommend him and his firm.

I had been searching for a law firm to help me with my estate planning and called a multitude of firms in the Northern Virginia area and had little luck connecting with the direct law firm. When I called Nova Estate Planning, I had the pleasure of quickly talking to Attorney Jonathan Cox. He was incredibly knowledgeable, and took the time to answer all of my questions. He helped me with two separate matters and had great attention to detail and overall got the job done very quickly. He's fast, smart, efficient and gets the job done. I highly recommend Nova Estate Planning.

From the minute I walked into the office, the staff was friendly and extremely helpful. Every detail was carefully explained to me, and I was encouraged to ask questions about anything I didn't understand. The final documents were delivered on time and my whole experience was great.

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
