Overview

Joe DiPietro is the Founder of DiPietro Law Group, PLLC. He is an experienced family law attorney and litigator with an extensive background handling complex cases involving divorce, custody, paternity, property division, child support, alimony, modification, contempt, pre-marital agreements, separation, property settlement agreements, and international parental abduction matters pursuant to the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. His ability to approach serious legal and emotional problems his clients face in a level-headed, professional, and courteous manner has proven to provide positive excellent results for his clients.

Joe’s philosophy and mission is to make family transitions a time for personal growth and powerful positive change in his clients’ lives. He excels in obtaining favorable results for his clients during both settlement negotiations and litigation because of his deep understanding and first-hand experience in dealing with destructive consequences of family conflict, in addition to his technical expertise. Joe is a firm believer in settling cases through negotiation and mediation whenever possible. He is trained in mediation and collaborative law and believes that private, customized solutions to complicated problems help clients preserve relationships in the family, particularly with children, and assets for the future. His deep understanding and experience with the divorce litigation process allows him to provide his clients with the appropriate perspective to make cost/benefit assessments while evaluating settlement options. When settlement discussions fail, he is a highly capable litigator who is prepared to pursue aggressively the best possible outcome at trial.

Joe’s background includes complex equitable distribution work such as tracing of funds, division of assets, division of businesses and professional partnership interests, and issues related to executive compensation. His strong financial background allows him to converse easily with valuation experts and create compelling legal arguments involving complex financial concepts.

In addition to handling divorce and family law matters, Joe is experienced handling international matters pursuant to the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction and the International Child Abduction Remedies Act. He has experience negotiating, litigating, and appealing these cases in federal courts. International parental abduction cases present unique and intense issues for parents to manage. Joe is an experienced, steady hand throughout the process.

Prior to entering private practice, Joe served as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Hon. Michael J. Stamm in the Circuit Court for St. Mary’s County, Maryland and worked at a law firm in Washington, DC.

Joe is active in the community and has served on the Former Board of Directors for the Alexandria Bar Association and the Latino Student Fund. He is a Former member of the Leadership Greater Washington Class of 2019 where he explored various challenges facing the DC Metro area and how to use his Firm as a platform to help solve them.
