I am Matthew Barbero, a criminal defense and traffic attorney who owns and operates Legal Defense Center - Matthew Barbero P.L.C., a law firm dedicated to criminal and traffic law matters in Virginia Beach, Virginia. My journey began in Westchester, New York, where I discovered my passion for performance and public speaking through stand-up comedy and improvisational theater. During my formative years, I cultivated strategic thinking through chess, becoming proficient enough to work as a chess tutor throughout college and before entering law school. This experience taught me to anticipate multiple moves ahead and think strategically under pressure – abilities that translate directly to legal practice. My natural talent for public speaking and crowd engagement became evident early on, skills I continue to utilize when addressing juries and presenting cases.

My legal education took me to Washington, D.C., where I attended The George Washington University Law School. After successfully passing the Virginia bar examination, I immediately immersed myself in criminal defense work. I joined a law firm, where I handled criminal defense, traffic defense and DUI/DWI cases under the mentorship of the firm's owner. My dedication and skills became apparent when, within just four months, I secured a remarkable jury trial victory for a client facing three serious charges that collectively carried a potential life imprisonment sentence. I successfully argued for dismissal of one charge during the Motion to Strike phase, while the jury delivered not guilty verdicts on the remaining two charges.
