Attorney Information
Overview
Carl listens to his clients. He knows how important each case is to that client. Good results come from hard work and clear communication. Carl takes the time to explain the law so his clients understand their rights and the process ahead.
Carl’s work is to represent people. After spending five years in criminal prosecution, Carl has spent over 30 years helping individuals in some of their most important relationships, and some of their most important problems. These are Family Law and Criminal Defense.
For more than three decades Carl has represented people in their family law cases. Family law is much more than divorces. In addition, Carl has won many cases where he represented fathers seeking primary care of their children. Carl represents third-party nonparents seeking custody of children. Carl has won property divisions awarding his client significantly more than half the community property. Family law includes determining parentage, establishing parenting plans and assuring fair child support. Carl has litigated these claims successfully and has mediated many favorable settlements.
Carl also helps individuals restore their gun rights after a felony or other qualifying conviction. Once you have completed your sentence and meet the eligibility requirements, Carl can guide you through the expungement process or other available legal avenues to help clear your record and regain your Second Amendment rights. Many people in Washington discover that a well-prepared petition can make a meaningful difference in reclaiming this important right.
When criminal difficulties arise, Carl can help. As a prosecutor he learned criminal law and procedure. In private practice he has used that knowledge to help his clients defend allegations of criminal misconduct. The most frequent involve assaults and alcohol. Carl applies his history of successful litigation to solve these cases.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
