Milwaukee Criminal Law Lawyer
Overview
Geoff Misfeldt joined Kohler & Hart, SC as an associate in 2010. His practice largely consists of criminal trial and appellate work in State and Federal courts. In addition to his criminal law practice, Geoff represents clients in personal injury cases and in licensing matters. Geoff has handled licensing matters for a variety of professions and occupations, including professionals in law, nursing, and the medical field, along with daycare and tavern licensures.Geoff takes a special interest in defending those accused of OWI offenses and subscribes to the firm's philosophy that you can only receive the best defense from someone who stays on top of the constantly changing legal and scientific landscape.Geoff has defended a number of firearms rights cases and, as a lifelong hunter, recognizes that the right to responsibly keep and bear arms is of special importance to many. He and Craig Powell vigorously fought against a law that prohibits all felons from forever possessing firearms, and they successfully challenged Wisconsin's law that prohibits people from openly carrying tasers.
Geoff has also been instrumental in helping many of the firm's clients obtain dismissals before trial in a variety of criminal cases. He challenged the constitutionality of a boating law that resulted in the dismissal of the case; helped a client charged with possessing more than a quarter-pound of marijuana obtain a non-jail sentence by challenging a drug dog's search of a home; and got a client's case dismissed when the prosecution withheld evidence.
Geoff has also obtained favorable results for appellate clients and has written briefs in cases before the Wisconsin Court of Appeals and the Wisconsin Supreme Court. He has assisted in the preparation of petitions to the United States Supreme Court and has also argued before the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Prior to joining the firm, Geoff spent a year with the Milwaukee Office of the State Public Defender. While in law school, he co-founded the Marquette Law School Criminal Law Society, served as an intern to Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, and worked with the Federal Defender's Office in Milwaukee. Geoff obtained his B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
He is a member of the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Milwaukee Bar Association, the Wisconsin State Bar, and is licensed to practice in Wisconsin's State and Federal Courts.
