Florence Civil Rights Law Firm
Overview
Henry Sherrod,Alabama Civil Rights Trial Lawyer
I represent individuals throughout North Alabama in civil rights and employment matters.
Every day, I have the privilege of helping individuals in North Alabama fight back in a court of law when their civil rights have been violated. It’s what I do, and it’s who I am.
Protecting Civil Rights
Our rights are meaningless when they are violated with impunity.
- I represent the families of inmates who are injured or die while in jail due to neglect of medical theft.
- I represent employees who are discriminated against or harassed due to race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religious affiliation or any other protected characteristic.
- I represent victims of police misconduct, including false arrest and excessive force — victims of police shootings, assaults, pepper sprays and tasers.
- I represent employees who are denied overtime pay to which they are entitled the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Making a Difference
My clients are ordinary people who choose to fight back when their rights have been violated.
They want more than money; they want to make a difference. I help the do that. I handle most cases on a contingent fee basis, meaning that my fee is a percentage of the monetary damages I obtain for you.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
