    Hired Attorney 2018-2020
I would not recommend Royal Dumas . I hired him to represent my interest as a Beneficiary in a Life Insurance Trust set up by my mother for the benefit of her two disabled children. I fired him because he introduced counter evidence that was also inadmissible hearsay notes on a piece of paper with no Deposition of anyone claiming to be the author of them. The notes were even taken from a meeting that our mother did not attend. The Billing from the attorney show it was a meeting with the Insurance Agent and the Lawyer and our mother was not present. He allowed the Defendants Lawyer to falsely claim the Plaintiffs argued they have an Oral Trust when the Complaint does not make that claim. Why ? Because an "Oral Trust" by law is held to a higher standard of proof than an Insurance policy held by a Trustee. He also pointed out to the Defendant during a deposition the inadmissible hearsay hand written notes from my mothers lawyers describing his client as a "ne'er do well" with the Defendant laughing about his client. If my mother knew that lawyer described her son that way she would have fired him. He pointed out this degrading term to the Defendant who embezzled an entire Trust set up for his client . What lawyer does that? He filed subpoenas for our witnesses 2 days before trial and/or 5 days before trial. He failed to tell me the insurance agent on my mother policy was his client across the hall and was friends with the Defendant for 25 years. Failed to inform client of conflict of interest. Of course he is a lawyer and can sue me if anything I say in this is a lie and can not be backed up by evidence. I will be setting up a website with all the documents of his incompetence. L

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
