Verified ClientHired Law firm 2019-2020Dan Allan is a joke of an attorney. He has disappointed multiple times in the course of my case due to poor communication and organization between me, himself, and his staff. He failed to submit notice of representation until ONE DAY before my first scheduled hearing, despite multiple communications prior to that day. This resulted in the hearing being pushed back on an urgent matter that should not have been delayed. Then, he continued to charge me for multiple phone calls and "services" due to extension of my case for a mistake HE created. On another hearing date, he notified me that the case had again been delayed. I was at work and got a call from their office that the case was happening and I needed to phone in right then to be present by phone! I had even double checked with Dan that the hearing was not going to occur earlier that morning. I had originally had the entire day off work to plan and meet with Dan to review things prior to the hearing. When I arrived via telephone, Dan was completely unprepared - it was as if he hadn't even looked at my file at all!! The court did not rule in my favor and now my case has been further delayed. I then promptly informed him after the hearing that I no longer required his services - I could have done a better job representing myself! He argued with me as to why I felt the way I did. He has still failed to send me the necessary paperwork to sign and has not withdrawn representation, resulting in further delays in my case. This has been a complete nightmare! This man has lost his ability to recall important information and in my opinion needs to retire. He is terrible - don't rely on him!

Verified ClientHired Law firm 2018-2019Dan did a magnificent job representing me in my recent divorce. His expertise in the law proved to be astounding. Obviously, I was amazed as I witnessed Dan "play his cards" expertly, one by one. The result was that we garnered what we went to trial for. For a moment I perceived I was watching a wisened country lawyer who needed very few notes or visual aids to thoroughly present our case under the law. Dan is a Combat Vet and he provides a generous discount for all Veterans. This is the gentleman that Dan is and I recommend him 100%.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
