Chandler Family Law Lawyer

Overview

Practical Experience. Strategic Resolution.

Monica Donaldson Stewart is the managing attorney at Donaldson Stewart, P.C., where she focuses exclusively on family law, helping clients navigate prenuptial agreements, divorce, legal separation, parenting time, child support, and other complex transitions with clarity and confidence.

With nearly three decades of experience, Monica brings a calm, strategic approach to each case. Her goal is simple: to help clients resolve their family law matters efficiently and respectfully.

A Focus on Settlement

Monica is a trained mediator and collaborative divorce professional. She has served as a Judge Pro Tem for the Maricopa County Superior Court since 2007, where she has conducted more than 150 settlement conferences in family law matters. This resolution-focused perspective allows her to see cases from all sides—and helps her clients reach practical, long-lasting agreements without unnecessary conflict. Monica believes litigation should be a last resort, not a default strategy.

- Arizona State University, J.D. (1997)

- Bar Admissions: Arizona State Courts and U.S. District Court, District of Arizona (1997)

Monica began her legal career with a strong foundation in mediation, completing a semester-long clinic during law school. She completed her first collaborative divorce training in 2009 with the Collaborative Divorce Institute and has continued advanced training in the years since.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
