With the introduction of Arizona’s Legal Paraprofessional program, Kaitlin saw an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in family law. Having personally experienced the challenges of a contentious parental divorce, she is deeply committed to helping families navigate the complexities of separation while prioritizing the well-being of children.

Kaitlin firmly believes in Arizona’s child-centered approach to family law. She strives to assist clients in resolving disputes amicably and constructively. By focusing on fostering cooperation and protecting the best interests of children, Kaitlin is dedicated to providing compassionate and reliable legal guidance during life’s most challenging times.

What is a Legal Paraprofessional?

A Legal Paraprofessional (LP) is a professional with specific education and experience

who is licensed to provide legal services in limited practice areas. As required, our LPs have

passed state issued exams in family law and are upheld to the same ethical standard as licensed attorneys. This profession is often compared to a nurse practitioner in the medical field.

What can a Legal Paraprofessional do?

Under ACJA Β§ 7-210, a licensed legal paraprofessional is authorized to provide the following legal services without the supervision of an attorney:

(1) Prepare and sign legal documents;

(2) Provide specific advice, opinions, or recommendations about possible legal rights, remedies, defenses, options, or strategies;

(3) Draft and file documents, including initiating and responding to actions, related motions, discovery, interim and final orders, and modification of orders, and arrange for service of legal documents;

(4) Appear before a court or tribunal on behalf of a party, including mediation, arbitration, and settlement conferences where not prohibited by the rules and procedures of the forum; and

(5) Negotiate legal rights or responsibilities for a specific person or entity.

Scope of Practice

A legal paraprofessional licensed in family law may render authorized services in:

  • Domestic relations, such as:
  • Divorce and legal separation (with and without children)
  • Child custody establishment and modification
  • Child support establishment and modification
  • Establishing paternity
  • Spousal maintenance, also known as alimony or spousal support
  • Enforcements

LP’s are not attorneys and cannot provide any kind of legal advice that is not within the scope of the practice area in which they are licensed. Within the family law scope, they are unable to prepare a Qualified Domestic Relations Order and supplemental orders dividing retirement assets, the division or conveyance of formal business entities or commercial property, appeal to the court of appeals, supreme court, or adoption. An attorney in the firm will be responsible for any work agreed to by the Firm that is outside of the scope of an LP’s certification.
