Karen A. Schoenau - Scottsdale, AZ

Karen A. Schoenau has practiced solely in family law since 1990. Her focus is helping clients understand and navigate through the legal process. She works diligently to obtain the best possible outcome for her clients and their families. Having thirty years of experience has not only provided her with significant knowledge of the law but also of the emotional toll that the process can take on people. Each case is unique, and Karen takes the time to explain the system, the law, and the procedures of each court. She has a commitment to fairness and equity, and because of her experience is able to balance sensitivity and the right level of aggressive litigation to protect and promote her client’s rights.

She is familiar with not only the Courts in Maricopa County but also with many of the Courts in the surrounding counties and across Arizona. Over the years, she has built a significant network of professionals to consult with in special cases, including mental health workers, psychologists, and financial professionals.

Karen’s vast experience allows her to handle cases that range from high-conflict custody matters, extensive marital estates and extended family rights for grandparents and other relatives of children.

In her custody matters, she always keeps the best interests and health of the children in the forefront of her mind. She is proficient in negotiating resolutions and handling pre-and post-marital agreements and marital settlements.

Karen was born in Chicago, Illinois. She attended undergraduate at the University of Colorado, Boulder Campus. After taking a few years to pursue her dream of being a professional skier, she returned to Chicago to pursue legal studies at Loyola University, College of Law. After graduating she decided to move back west, this time to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1987. After working for several firms and partnering with several attorneys, she opened her solo practice in 2010. She has devoted considerable time to pro bono work with the Family Law Assistance Program where she has been named Attorney of the Month several times and Attorney of the year. She believes in giving back to the community.
