Ms. Cynthia is an incredible and very fair ad litem. She took the time to thoroughly research and understand both families, and I truly appreciate that she values the importance of children having meaningful relationships with both parents. Because of her dedication, effort, and careful examination of our case, my husband now has more time with his kids and they will truly get to know their father. We are so grateful for the work she put into our case.

I read the reviews when she was first appointed to my case and I told my lawyer I had serious concerns. I was assured that they weren’t all true and that Cynthia was the best. She started out agreeing with me and said she had all the same concerns I have. She drug her feet for years and then completely flipped to back the dads side. She twisted what I said and made it seem like my child was better off with the parent that was never involved in the important things and was proven to be dishonest. If you’re a mom you better do everything possible to prevent her from being assigned to your case. It doesn’t matter how much you do for your child or how much your involved with your child’s life, she will still side with dad.

I wish I had the option of leaving zero stars. This woman is an absolute crook. She engages in fraudulent billing and blatantly lies in her recommendations and to the court. When I was interviewing lawyers to handle my custody case, many refused to sign on after finding out she was the appointed ad litem. She is well known for her laziness and dishonesty. She is immediately against mothers from the get go and has a reputation for this to the extent lawyers pick her based upon the gender of their clients. I really hope she retires soon because her ability and willingness to perform her job is nonexistent. If she gets appointed and you can't remove her, keep diligent records. She is dishonest in her billing and chalks it all up to just being "forgetful".

If you are a woman, DO NOT use her. She is notorious for siding with fathers to the point of being dishonest. She is well known for being lazy, disorganized, not returning phone calls or emails, and is not forthcoming when called out on her unprofessional behavior. Amazingly, she manages to get her act together when she goes before a judge and will torpedo your case if you aren't a father. Her lack of attention to detail and clear bias is a detriment to her clients and contrary to the oath she swore. She isn't interested in facts, only her narrative. My opinion is shared by attorneys, therapists, and even a few judges. She's is also dishonest in her billing and "forgets you've paid her". Thank God I kept careful records.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
