Attorney Information

Overview

I am a child of divorced parents, a second wife, a step-mom, and a mom. Those roles influence and enhance my family law representation every single day. I also know how it feels to be a client, having watched my husband go through a custody battle for his daughter when she was very young. I will never forget that feeling of vulnerability, hope, and dependence on the attorney to keep us informed and to fight for what was important to us. Now, years later, as my stepdaughter has developed into a wonderful, well-adjusted adult, I am grateful for the way we all ultimately raised her to love every person in her family, not just "our side."

My parents were a role model for that version of a split family. Although they were often separated and then divorced during my childhood, they never put us in the middle of their conflicts. Through my childhood, they attended and sat together at our basketball games, pageants, awards ceremonies; and through my dad's passing in 2018, they were both present at the Thanksgiving table and to at Christmas; and they never spoke ill of each other in front of us. I use all of these experiences to help my clients navigate what is often the one of the worst experiences of their life--separating from their significant other and fighting for their rights to their children, property, and livelihood. As I have reached middle age, I have a keen appreciation for the importance of preserving my clients' property and financial stability, in the wake of divorce.

And although the laws and caselaw have finally begun to catch up to legislating correctly, I am proud to say that I have always fought hard for my LGBTQ+ clients--whether it's related to their parental rights or their property. We are a safe space for these clients, having been the law firm that prevailed in first establishing court-ordered visitation rights for a non-biological parent. Family law is my passion. I love knowing that my work has made a difference in my clients' lives, that I have helped them make a new start, and in being here for them if and when they need help in the future.

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
