    Consulted Law firm 2025
These Are the People You Want in Your Corner I don’t write reviews. Ever. But I’m making an exception here because LS Carlson Law earned it. I had a serious problem with my HOA: targeted harassment, selective enforcement, you name it. The board was out of control and I’d had enough. I’m a doctor, not a lawyer, and I don’t have time for games. So I went straight to someone I trust: a close friend of mine who’s been a judge in California for nearly 30 years. His advice? Simple. One, Read BAD HOA written by LS Carlson Law and then Two, book a consultation with their firm. That’s it. This is coming from a judge who’s personally used them and seen real results. (Apparently, even judges get screwed by HOAs.) I read the book cover to cover. Eye-opening. It broke down exactly what I was dealing with: power-hungry board members and the same intimidation tactics used in bad HOAs all over the country. Suddenly, it all made sense. Then I reached out to LS Carlson Law. Their responsiveness blew me away, probaby the most professional and on-the-ball firm I’ve ever dealt with, legal or otherwise. I told the consulting attorney I wasn’t worried about the cost. I was ready to hire them and go full steam ahead. But here’s what impressed me most and really why I've taken time to leave this review,, they didn’t take my money. Instead, they gave me strategic advice on what to do first with my board. No hard sell. Just solid guidance. They told me exactly how to assert my rights and stand up to the nonsense — and it worked. I never ended up needing to retain them because the board backed off once they realized I wasn’t going to be steamrolled, LS Carlson Law is the real deal. Sharp, honest, strategic, and they actually care about homeowners. If you’re dealing with a rogue HOA, do yourself a favor read the book, call the firm, and don’t get pushed around.

I've been working with Luke Carlson and his team for over 10 years now. They have been an invaluable asset to my business from protecting it to successfully navigating various high-stakes litigation matters that have arisen over the years. I would highly recommend them to friends, family, and those within my professional networks.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
