Attorney Information
Overview
José Gurrola is an associate at Rodriguez & Associates, assisting in all aspects of personal injury cases and working closely with the team of partners to help clients and their families seek justice. His experience is rooted in civil litigation with a focus on eviction defense and domestic violence and he possesses strong leadership and public speaking skills.
Driven to help those who are underserved or suffering from injustice, José’s path to becoming a personal injury attorney is bolstered by a commitment to his surrounding community and experience as a public servant.
José grew up in the community of Arvin outside of Bakersfield. He was first introduced to law by participating in Arvin High School’s award-winning We The People team. This extracurricular program taught him the purpose and application of government, the law, and public service.
While furthering his education at Bakersfield College and California State University Bakersfield and obtaining degrees in political science, José ran for and won the race for Councilmember in 2012 and then Mayor of Arvin in 2016. As one of the youngest elected officials in California, Jose rose to the challenge of enacting changes for the betterment of the Arvin community. Through his tenure in public service, José realized the importance of community representation and the depth of systemic issues within the government and society.
José saw the direct impact he was able to affect in a position of leadership. His passion for tearing down the injustices facing the underserved and hardworking families in his community led him to pursue a career in law. José graduated from Kern County College of Law and passed the California Bar on his first attempt in 2022. He began his work at Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance, Inc.’s Sargent Shriver Housing Project where he provided direct legal representation to low-income individuals and families facing eviction and victims of domestic violence seeking restraining orders.
José’s enthusiasm for litigation led him to connect with Rodriguez & Associates. He brings to the firm knowledge about local government, vast connections within the Kern County community, and a passion for representing hard-working, everyday people.
Outside the office, José enjoys spending time with his family, visiting Disney Amusement Parks, being a “foodie” with his wife, and staying active with swimming, dancing, and golf.
