Attorney Information

Overview

By way of background, I am a graduate of the University of California-Berkeley, the University of Missouri School of Medicine, University of Missouri School of Public Administration (Health Care), the Southwestern University School of Law. I have also had formal classroom work in International Law at the University of San Diego School of Law. I am also a Certified Mediator.

Although I am a licensed physician trained in Internal Medicine, I have been in the full-time practice of law for the past thirty-three years.

My law practice has been somewhat eclectic. I have handled scores of medical malpractice cases and have recovered millions of dollars for my clients. I have also represented physicians and medical groups in business matters, civil rights litigation, criminal defense, licensing, hospital privileges and certification issues. I am defense counsel for several local homes that provide care for disabled adults.

I also have experience in criminal defense including major crime, including murder and criminal conspiracy cases involving international drug and theft rings in Federal Courts in North Carolina and Virginia.

I have done a considerable amount of civil rights litigation, including Title VI and Title VII and Eighth Amendment cases. I am a legal advisor to a local NAACP Chapter and a legal advisor to the Congress Of Racial Equality- California. I have class action experience---including as lead counsel in a case against a Los Angeles County water district.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
