Overview

SCOTT BLEIFER is an experienced attorney in Los Angeles, California. After taking a break to teach high school history and to coach high school basketball, he has returned to practicing law. Mr. Bleifer began his legal career in 1990 working with a top construction law firm in Los Angeles, Kamine, Steiner & Ungerer, representing and defending contractors in cases ranging from breach of contract (e.g. extra work, differing site conditions, change order and delays) to mechanics liens, stop notice actions, and construction defects. During this time, Mr. Bleifer participated in the Trial Advocacy Program with the Los Angeles County Bar, wherein he worked for the District Attorney's office in West Covina and gained invaluable trial experience in misdemeanor cases. Mr. Bleifer's early legal career also includes his work for some of the most well known insurance defense firms in Los Angeles, including Booth, Mitchell & Strange, and Dennison Bennett & Press, wherein he defended CNA, Allstate and State Farm clients in personal injury and construction claims. Mr. Bleifer also had his own practice for several years wherein he represented contractors and other business owners in civil disputes.

Mr. Bleifer got a teaching credential and taught Advanced Placement U.S. History at Montclair College Preparatory School and Advanced Placement European History at Marymount High School. He also coached varsity basketball at Milken High School in 2012-2013, where his squad went undefeated in league under his leadership. He then coached basketball and volleyball at North Hollywood High from 2013 to 2017, which included an undefeated league title in basketball in 2016.

Before joining Finch Tetzlaff in 2019, Mr. Bleifer worked with Tharpe & Howell, LLP since 2016, the largest insurance defense firm in the San Fernando Valley, wherein he defended Homesite, GEICO, Progressive, The General Insurance, American National and Capital Insurance Group clients in personal injury claims, a majority of which involved defending commercial transportation carriers.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
