    Hired Law firm 2019-2020
It all came to a screeching halt when he indicated that he would be submitting to the discovery documents I provided without reviewing them himself. If he doesn't have time to review the documents, what's his purpose? This prompted me to do a deep dive on google and I knew I needed to find another attorney. The most disturbing one was the following one: "Is it possible to give zero stars? I work at the Long Beach VA and have a claim of racial discrimination pending. Found this character and it suggests he sues the VA. After telling him all about my case and my racist supervisor, I find out months later he has taken my supervisor as a client. Then, I file a complaint with the California State Bar. They ask him how he wound up getting both me and my boss as clients. He told the California State Bar that the VA all the way from San Diego to LA refers cases to him. How can the VA refer the attorney who's supposed to be suing the VA. Steer clear of this guy!!!" I didn't detect this factor initially but I eventually did. I swiftly moved on to a firm without these types of issues. I thanked the reviewer profusely.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
