Hired Attorney 2010I would like to warn everybody about this lawyer Joshua C. Anaya SBN:265444 IS A CROOK A THIEF AND A LIAR!! Here is what he did. This was a case of a car dealership advertised a car for $4599 but sold it to us for $9899. We put down $1300. I had took pictures of the car with the price tag on it as we walked up to look at the car. Because of the pictures the lawyer got her case when we went to court we were outside of the hallway and he walks up to us and says that they are only offering $1,500 would you be comfortable with that he said in reality you guys only put down 1,300. So my friend tolled him since he said all they are offering to pay is $1500 she ask him at least $5000 and he said ok. He went inside the court we stayed out in hallway. He came out and said ok we are gunna go into judges office not in court his office he's going to ask you if $5,000 is okay and you're going to tell him yes and that's what they did and they came back out to the hallway and he went back in and came back out with the $5,000 check hand it to her. Had her sign some papers real quick and left. As we left I was reading the papers and he got $60,000 and she got $5,000 we called him and asked him I thought you said they were only offering 1,500 and he said no no don't try to extort money from me and he hung up on us. He Mislead us in thinking that all the other company was offering was $1,500 he wasn't looking out for our best interest but his own.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
