Overview
Rika M. Kido is a member of the firm's Bankruptcy and Reorganization Department and the firm's Transactional Department. Ms. Kido's practice focuses on all aspects of bankruptcy, including representing trustees, debtors, creditors, and both plaintiffs and defendants in adversary proceedings, and focuses on providing advice to corporate clients on formation, governance, and their ongoing business transactions.
Ms. Kido graduated cum laude from Middlebury College with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and Japanese in 2003. Ms. Kido earned her masters degree in international affairs in 2007 from the School of Global Policy and Strategy at the University of California, San Diego. Ms. Kido attended the University of San Francisco School of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor in 2010. During law school, Ms. Kido was a literary editor for the USF Maritime Law Journal, secretary of the International Law Society, and a participant in the 2009 Judge John R. Brown Admiralty Moot Court Competition. Ms. Kido was the recipient of the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for the highest grade in the following classes: Legal Research & Writing I, Legal Research & Writing II, and International Business Transactions.
Ms. Kido was selected for inclusion in Rising Stars in Southern California Super Lawyers Magazine in 2018, 2020 and 2021. Ms. Kido is also active in the community. She is currently the treasurer of the Orange County Bankruptcy Forum. She is also currently the treasurer of the Southern California Network of the International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation. She is also a member of the Orange County Bar Association and the Inland Empire Bankruptcy Forum.
Ms. Kido has authored the "Marital Issues" topic for the Inland Empire Bankruptcy Forum's Annual Fall Seminar since 2015 and the "Trustee and Case Administration" topic since 2019. She also co-produced "JAWS: A Judges' Discussion of Best Practices for Effective Advocacy Revisited" at the California Bankruptcy Forum's 26th Annual Insolvency Conference held in May 2014. Ms. Kido has co-authored "Operator, Can You Get Me an Extension? Extending the Automatic Stay to Non-Debtor Parties," which was published in the California Bankruptcy Journal in 2010 and "Post-Default Enforcement of Rights Under UCC Financing," which was published in the Orange County Bankruptcy Journal in September 2010.
