Hired Attorney 2016-2018was in a car accident and sustained a head injury and spinal injury. I felt Mr o'Leary did not take me seriously at all and did not do anything to fight for me or represent me appropriately. My spinal injury has progressively gotten worse and the pain has increased over the years. I cannot find a comfortable position to lay to relieve the pain and discomfort. My complications from my head injury have also only grown worse, and I did not receive the compensation to get the treatment I was told I needed. I was also told I have developed scar tissue on my brain where the injury occured and nothing can be done at this point. I have lost my short term memory and constantly get dates and appointments mixed up. I cannot think clearly enough to hold a personal conversation. The person at fault's insurance was horrible to work with and made exaggerated claims about me that had nothing to do with my injuries sustained from the car accident. Again, Mr O'Leary did nothing to fight for me, and even acted like he was not the least bit interested in helping me. He was nice enough to speak with, but obviously did not care about my outcome. I received $11,000 and by the time I paid my hospital bills and therapists I was left with $5,000. I know other people who have sustained brain injuries and were compensated up to $100,000. I wish I would have fought for myself. I find it very sad and justice was not served on my behalf.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
