Hired Attorney 2022This attorney James Gaines, if he even is one, is a complete fraud and totally useless. Paid him $110 to contest a speeding ticket. Emailed, called him multiple times trying to find out what the status was since he claimed he was "handling" it. Next thing I know, I receive a letter from the court advising I had 20 days to pay my fine and a warrant would be issued for my arrest. Complete waste of money. I could have just dealt with the court directly and would have been a lot easier. Now I have to send a money order for $316 overnight to the court so I don't have a warrant issued. Great job James!

Hired Attorney 2022I don't even know where to begin with how satisfied I am with the service provided by Mr Gaines. Well I guess we could always start with financially by far and I mean by far by far the dropping off point of money beats everyone else at least that I contacted about taking on my case.. he then kept me updated throughout the process something that's really important to me that I didn't have to keep messaging him that he proactively message me whenever new information came about. Suffice to say that Mr Gaines successfully got all counts dropped on my case can't thank him enough.. *I am a real client and was not paid to post this or a "good review upon winning of case" basis. It is all genuine and true what I posted*

Hired Attorney 2020-2021Working with Mr. Gaines was a very poor experience. I hired him to represent me for a traffic ticket I received in June of 2020. I would not hear anything for months and then after I sent several emails asking for a status update he would respond that he would have it taken care of "in a few weeks" or "by the end of the month". I would not receive any further communication until I followed up a few weeks later and would receive the same response. My case was not settled until March of 2021...and only after I requested my money back in full. Mr. Gaines would call me from a blocked number, leave a voicemail, and then not pick up his phone when I tried him back within 5 minutes. The times I did speak to him, his tone was often sarcastic and condescending. Do yourself a favor and find a different attorney that is more polite and responsive!!!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
