Attorney Information

Overview

Carly Trainor is an associate in the firm’s entertainment and corporate departments. She represents artists, companies, investors and executives in transactions throughout all stages of the business lifecycle (including joint ventures, commercial transactions, strategic partnerships, equity financings and M&A). She also counsels companies on general corporate matters, such as entity formation and governance, equity incentive programs and engaging and terminating executives and other service providers.

Prior to joining the firm, Carly practiced for many years with Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP’s Entertainment & Media transactional practice group. Carly began her career at Venable LLP and moved with her Venable team to open Willkie’s Los Angeles office in 2021.

While most of Carly’s clients’ deals are confidential, Carly’s publicly reported experience* includes her serving as the sole or primary associate in her firm’s representation of:

  • Create Music Group, a music technology company, in its acquisition of Monstercat, a Canadian electronic music record label
  • Ryan Reynolds in his brand ambassador deal with Mint Mobile, an MVNO
  • Content Partners, an entertainment investment company, in its acquisition of film and television content and profit participations therein
  • Jeremy Renner in his brand ambassador deal with Sweet Grass Vodka
  • REP 1 Football, an NFL player agency, in its sale to Excel Sports Management
  • Shamrock Capital, an entertainment investment company, in its investment in Boardwalk Pictures, a production company

*Prior to joining KHPS.

In her spare time, Carly loves to run, surf and (poorly) play guitar.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
