Ms. Burkes is a native of Gulfport, Mississippi, and graduated from Harrison Central High School.After high school, she attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and then the University of Southern Mississippi, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in English and a minor in Marketing.After college, Ms. Burkes taught high school English for three years before entering law school.

Ms. Burkes attended law school at the University of Mississippi.While in law school, Ms. Burkes received numerous awards, including the prestigious American Jurisprudence awards in Torts, Property I, Property II, Corporations, and Legal Ethics.She was the winner of the law school's Moot Court Board Oral Advocacy Competition and had the honor of representing Ole Miss on its National Moot Court Competition Team.Ms. Burkes was also a member of The Mississippi Law Journal and served as Assistant Editor-in-Chief.She graduated with honors (cum laude) and was awarded membership in Phi Kappa Phi, then the highest honorary society at Ole Miss.

After law school, Ms. Burkes had the privilege of completing a one-year clerkship with the Honorable E. Grady Jolly, United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit.

Since she began practicing law, Ms. Burkes has represented individuals who have been injured due to the negligence of another.She has a very successful record of resolving claims on behalf of her clients.In addition, she is an experienced trial attorney who has obtained jury verdicts over $1,000,000.00 on numerous occasions.

Ms. Burkes is a member of the American Inns of Court; MTLA; and ATLA.She and her husband, Jeff, have one daughter, and they attend Trinity United Methodist Church in Gulfport.She is also a member of the Kappa Delta Alumni Association.
