Overview
Seth D. Mumy is an experienced litigator whose practice focuses on high-stakes entertainment, intellectual property, and business disputes, including matters involving copyright, trademark, right of publicity, defamation, contracts, royalties, and licensing. Mr. Mumy has represented artists, entertainers, athletes, estates, rights holders, entertainment companies, and other businesses in state and federal courts, arbitration, and pre-litigation dispute resolution. His practice also encompasses emerging issues at the intersection of entertainment and technology, including artificial intelligence and digital replication.
Mr. Mumy's experience includes serving as a principal drafter of appellate briefing that helped secure a published Sixth Circuit decision reversing summary judgment against the Estate of Parliament-Funkadelic keyboardist Bernie Worrell in a copyright ownership dispute. He was also part of the litigation team in a federal action involving malicious prosecution and related tort claims that resulted in a $22.7 million jury verdict, recognized as California's largest malicious-prosecution verdict of 2024.
Mr. Mumy also served as Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs for Independent Sports & Entertainment (ISE), a leading sports and entertainment agency, where he handled commercial disputes and arbitrations, advised senior leadership and agents on legal and strategic matters, and negotiated licensing, sponsorship, endorsement, content production, and representation agreements.
