Verlan graduated from California Western School of Law and received of her Bachelor of Art in Political Science with a concentration in American Law and a minor in Cognitive Psychology from the University of California, Irvine where she was on the Dean's List. While in law school, Verlan was selected to participate in the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles Summer Program just after her first year. After graduation, Verlan began her legal career with an AmLaw 100 law firm concentrating on complex antitrust litigation for several years, which strengthened and broadened her litigation skills.
