Hired Attorney 2021She is bias and does not seem to care what the child want even though she is assigned to be the voice of them. She is unprofessional, short and cold. She does not make it comfortable to talk to her, and I can only imagine how my kids felt when doing the interview with her. I am not able to ask but I am best my life she had an idea of the outcome she wanted before talking to the kids. She is not a good person.

Hired Attorney 2017-2018Nicole L. Schmidt clearly doesn’t care about the children she represents and has the rudest manner of anyone I have ever interacted with. She is lazy, incompetent and self-serving. I have seen fewer people care less than her. She is rude, heartless, compassionless, and worked against a child being protected by giving the lawyer of a child’s abuser all the info she was given to help a child. She instead chose to work against the safety of a child while representing the child and seems to have very little experience or understanding of child abuse. If your child is assigned to her and you still have a choice, run away. If you don’t have a choice, I am sorry for you. I regret the day this woman became a lawyer.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
