Overview

As the founder of Patrick A. McCall Law Office, I know how important it is to choose the right attorney for your family law matter. I regularly represent people in Orange, California, and Orange County who are dealing with a divorce, custody dispute, paternity issue, child support or spousal support.

Family law issues are often complex, especially when it concerns the division of property or a child custody dispute involving family violence. Over the years, I have handled hundreds of family law cases and this experience has given me an in-depth understanding of the skills needed to protect your legal rights and obtain a successful outcome. I regularly share my experiences with judges, accountants and other attorneys, and I am passionate about helping you resolve your matter so you can move on with your life.

To better serve my law office’s clients, I have been certified as a family law specialist through The State Bar of California’s Board of Legal Specialization. Only a small number of attorneys are able to reach this achievement, which requires showing appropriate education, experience and references; and completing a lengthy examination.

When I meet with you in an initial free consultation at Patrick A. McCall Law Office, my first concern is to identify factors that can be used to support your position. I then gain an understanding of all parties concerned in the matter, the attitude of everyone involved, who your judge is, who the other party’s attorney is and what is the best strategy that fits your situation.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
