    Hired Attorney 2018
We hired Tracy Renee Lum because we thought she would do Johnny justice, especially after she had talked with him and built him up saying that he definitely did not belong in prison. She failed him miserably!!!! When we first hired her, there was plenty of time to get all of Johnny’s paperwork filed for commutation according to the application process. Before Tracy finished Johnny’s paperwork, she went on a trip to Maui and left her Paralegal to finish up all of my adopted son’s paperwork. That was a HUGE mistake! The Paralegal really messed up and cost him his freedom because she: mis-spelled words and dates, and did not include some very important documents. Then once Tracy returned, she had to re-do and re-submit paperwork that was not included and submitted the first time. This delayed Johnny’s commutation even more and made him miss the cut off process time. As a result of Tracy’s negligence, and the delay she caused, Johnny missed the cut off time when other inmates were being released and would not be granted clemency under Governor Brown because he left office and Johnny’s case would not be carried over by the new Governor, Gavin Newsom. This was all due to Tracy Lum’s negligence.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
