Taylor M. Budnick is the Managing Partner of the Los Angeles office of Family Law Group, Inc. (“FLG”). Born in Michigan and raised in Irvine, she earned her undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2012 and obtained her Juris Doctorate from Michigan State University College of Law in 2015, graduating Cum Laude. Taylor is licensed to practice law in both California and Colorado
Legal Experience:
Taylor has exclusively practiced Family Law for the entirety of her career. She has represented clients in family law proceedings throughout Southern California, including Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego Counties.
Taylor is a Certified Family Law Specialist by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. Her extensive litigation experience includes countless trials and evidentiary hearings on issues including date of separation, domestic violence, child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support, and property characterization, valuation and division. Taylor’s experience also includes working with private judges to discreetly settle cases outside of the public court setting.
Taylor has worked with an array of experts, including Forensic Accountants to conduct business valuations, cash flow analysis, and property balance sheets; 730 Custody Evaluators to perform complex child custody evaluations; Vocational Evaluators to assess the other party’s earning ability and address imputation of income issues; and real estate and property Appraisers.
Passion for Family Law:
Taylor’s commitment to family law developed in law school, where she participated in Michigan State University’s Chance at Childhood Law & Social Work Clinic. Through this interdisciplinary program between the law school and masters of social work programs, she gained hands-on experience advocating for children and families in child custody evaluation and guardianship matters. Taylor’s career as a family law attorney began while waiting to receive her California bar results, by working for a Los Angeles based nonprofit organization to help victims of domestic violence. Prior to joining FLG Taylor spent a combined 10 years at two other family law firms in Los Angeles as we as a firm in Orange County.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
