Attorney Information
Overview
Ms. Thompson is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate law as determined by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. She practices in the areas of estate planning, probate, and trust law, and litigates all related contested matters.
Ms. Thompson was admitted to the California State Bar in 2005 and, since then, has represented individual and corporate clients throughout the state of California at both the trial and appellate levels.
Ms. Thompson began her career as a civil litigator focused on land use and environmental law. However, in 2010 she expanded her practice to include estate planning and probate law and grew to love the connections she made with her clients while representing them through very personal, often difficult, circumstances. She appreciates the trust and estate law practice because of the opportunity to offer meaningful solutions and give peace of mind to families who are contemplating major life decisions or grieving the loss of a loved one. She brings compassion and empathy to every case, while remaining a compelling advocate for her clients' rights and best interests.
Born and raised just outside Washington, D.C., Ms. Thompson has had a passion for law and politics since a young age. Her first job was a competitive internship at a public interest law firm with an office on Capitol Hill, where she lobbied members of Congress, analyzed and reviewed legislation, and assisted the firm's civil rights attorneys with research and drafting. Thereafter, she paid her own way through law school working as a paralegal in a civil litigation firm in Northern Virginia. This on-the-job experience prepared Ms. Thompson to be a practical, efficient, and thorough attorney.
Ms. Thompson is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of California, the Third, Fourth, Seventh, Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Circuits of the United States Courts of Appeal, and also holds a license to practice law in Maryland. Ms. Thompson is a member of the Sacramento County Bar Association and the Trusts and Estates Section of the State Bar. In her free time, she enjoys running and exploring the great outdoors.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
