Overview
Mr. Harmeling has been practicing civil litigation in California since 2000, starting out in the Family Support Division of the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. He worked at three small law civil litigation law firms en route to starting his own civil litigation practice, the Law Offices of Henry Harmeling IV, APC, in 2006. Mr. Harmeling moved his solo practice to North San Diego County in 2010, renaming it Leucadia Law & Mediation to commemorate its presence in the heart of beautiful Leucadia, California. Mr. Harmeling was a sole practitioner for 8 ½ years before joining Taylor | Anderson in August 2014.
As a sole practitioner, Mr. Harmeling’s practice involved in a wide array of civil litigation matters, ranging from business and employment litigation to insurance bad faith, products liability to real estate, and personal injury (“PI”) to intellectual property litigation (“IP”). From PI to IP, Mr. Harmeling has acquired the ability to practice in a diverse, interesting, and challenging range of litigation areas. Mr. Harmeling views the practice of law as a series of steps and decision-making processes, and considers his hard-earned ability to make large- and small-scale client-centric decisions a significant asset in helping him evaluate, assess, and guide his clients through litigation.
In June 2007, Mr. Harmeling became a member of the San Diego Superior Court’s Mediation Panel. In August 2007, Mr. Harmeling was selected to be a mediator for the then-new, attorney-client fee dispute mediation program of the San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA). In 2010, Mr. Harmeling became a Judge Pro Tem for the San Diego Superior Court, where he regularly hears small claims and traffic matters.
Mr. Harmeling was graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1993. While at UCLA, Mr. Harmeling was a sports writer and later a sports editor with the UCLA Daily Bruin, which at the time was the third-largest circulation daily newspaper in Los Angeles. After working in sales for two years in Los Angeles, Mr. Harmeling commenced law school at the University of San Diego School of Law, receiving his juris doctor degree in 1998.
Mr. Harmeling resides in Carlsbad, California, with his wife, Courtney, their children, Jack and Lucy, and their dogs, Leni and Zuma. In his spare time, Mr. Harmeling enjoys spending time with his family, surfing, and following the Chargers (NFL) and Clippers (NBA). Mr. Harmeling is an avid music fan with tastes centered around the goings-on in Laurel Canyon in the late 1960s.
