Attorney Information
Overview
Peter Cuevas is an associate attorney within the Law Office of Meagan Nunez and joined the firm in 2023. Born and raised in San Diego, Peter brings a unique blend of academic excellence, community collaboration, parental participation, and an unwavering commitment to the child at issue, all fueled by a passion to drive positive change. Prior to joining the firm as an attorney, Peter interned as a legal clerk, working with the office on due process complaints, hearings, and federal appeals. Peter completed his undergraduate degree at San Diego State University, where he earned dean’s list honors and graduated summa cum laude in political science. Thereafter, he continued a pursuit of education at the University of San Diego, School of Law. During his time in law school, Peter earned the highest grades in Family Law and Refugee Law, while graduating with distinctions in Child Rights and Remedies and the "Outstanding Clinic Intern" for the Education & Disability Clinic.
Mr. Cuevas understands the emotional difficulty and legal complexities associated with this area of law. As an attorney, there must be a balance and understanding of educational policy and interventions; K-12 pedagogical approaches; general education and adapted curricula; the multitude of disabilities and various ways they manifest in children; transition planning for post-secondary life; behavioral interventions; multi-party dispute resolution; and many other topics. Successful special education practitioners must engage in ongoing and extensive continuing education far beyond law school requirements.
As a Fletcher Hills native, Peter always seeks out to discover new and exciting things that San Diego has to offer. In his free time, Peter will always cheer on the Padres.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
