    Hired Attorney 2019
THIS MAN IS A SCAMMER! Maybe at one point he was a decent attorney but 2019 he calls himself "broke and desolate!!!" He was entrusted by somebody close to me to represent him and took the client's money, and NEVER ONCE SHOWED UP IN COURT!!! MARCH through TODAY... THE MAN NEVER APPEARED! He hired a lackey, I will have to update the post once I figure out his name, who literally shows up to court for him. This last time the lackey showed up and explained that Mr. Puri had not contacted him and had not prepared him for the court appearance. I THEN HEARD HIM TELL THE JUDGE THAT MR. PURI WAS NOT IN GOOD STANDING WITH THE CALIFORNIA BAR ASSOCIATION!!!!!!! WHO DOES THAT?!?!?!?!?! WAIT IT GET'S BETTER! THE GUY DIDN'T EVEN LIVE IN CALIFORNIA WHEN HE TOOK THIS CASE! HE LIVES IN MIAMI! The lackey begged that I not expose Mr. Puri because MR. PURI HAS HAD HIM DOING THESE APPEARANCES IN COURT FOR HIM AND HE NEVER PAID HIM!!!!!!!!!! I mean really folks I can't make this stuff up. I finally went on Puri's website and omg. Who does this guy think he is? Disgusting, arrogant, and a FRAUD!!! Who knows how many other people he has ripped off. Wait I'll end it with this... When Puri was confronted about not informing his client that his license had been suspended since July (yes there were 2 court dates since) he said that he had gone on sabbatical and that the BAR had racked up fees which he was unable to pay. He said... get this... "Maybe if my clients paid me on time I would've been able to pay my fees." Yes. After getting $7500 for a case he never filed a single motion on, never showed up for court to in 7 months, and then even when we said please send the file to the new lawyer... he didn't. This guy must either be strung out on drugs or suffer some serious personality disorders. Either way don't give this guy your money.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
