Barbara Gately has been a business trial lawyer since 1977. She represents clients at the trial and appellate levels in a wide range of disputes including corporate governance, commercial claims, securities fraud, product liability, insurance coverage and bad faith, and professional liability. Her jury trial experience includes products liability, securities fraud and professional negligence cases. Barbara practiced first at Landels, Ripley and Diamond in San Francisco and then at Heller, Ehrman, White & McAuliffe, LLP, after which she formed her own firm in Marin County, California. Her many trial court and appellate accomplishments include

  • Summary judgment and appellate court victories in nationwide medical device litigation.
  • An insurance bad faith case that, on appeal, became a landmark ruling defining the insurer's duty to defend liability claims.
  • Successful prosecution of a corporate client's novel theories of vote-buying and other fiduciary breaches against some of its own directors and investors.

Barbara earned her law degree from Hastings College of the Law and her B.A. from Smith College.
