San Francisco Family and Divorce Law Lawyer

Overview

I have been practicing law since 2002. Early in my legal career, I vigorously defended insurance companies and settled numerous claims worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Although the work was challenging, I longed for the experience of working directly with people on a daily basis.

I now dedicate 100% of my practice to issues concerning family law. Practicing family law involves a delicate balance in controlling the emotional aspects many divorcing couples experience and providing a reasoned rational plan to resolve the case. Child custody disputes often involve balancing my client's position against the law's approach of doing what is in the best interests of the child. The reason I am drawn to this field of law is because I take pride in taking a person through a time when they are experiencing one of the worst things in their life like a divorce or a child custody battle and removing the uncertainty they may be experiencing.

I realize a client's uncertainty with the dissolution or custody process can be daunting. My job is to advise the client and recommend the best course of action. While I can never fully guarantee what judges may or may not do in my client's case, I always give my clients my full attention, my best effort and a case strategy consistent with their financial resources.

I handle all of my own cases and you can be sure your file won't end up in the hands of an attorney you have never met. When you call my office, you will be speaking directly with me. I keep my caseload small to commit myself to the personal attention I believe each of my clients deserve. I encourage you to look at the Testimonials link to see satisfied clients who I have helped carry through very traumatic times in their life. I welcome you to contact me to arrange a free half-hour consultation to compare my rates and to see if we can work together.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
