Overview
Partner Allyson Thompson is a trial lawyer. Ms. Thompson routinely tries high stakes litigation in both state court and arbitration. Ms. Thompson focuses her practice on all aspects of employment litigation.
However, not every case needs to go to trial. Ms. Thompson routinely provides counsel to clients on state, federal and regulatory compliance matters so as to avoid litigation and has been providing employer-side advice and counsel for over 20 years. In addition to providing preventative advice, she also litigates all types of civil and employment cases, including discrimination, whistleblower, wage and hour, and complex cases before State and Federal Courts involving employment law disputes. She has broad experience involving complex litigation in trade secrets, defamation, unfair competition law, and employment contract disputes.
She routinely defends her clients in hearings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) as well as the Department of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE). Ms. Thompson’s advice and counsel practice includes preparation and assessment of multi-state employee handbooks, audit and compliance review of existing company policies and procedures, complete on-boarding advice including employee classification analysis, handling workplace investigations, handling disability issues, termination, and navigating clients through complex employer issues.
Ms. Thompson frequently lectures to statewide business organizations and associations throughout California on strategies to avoid employment related litigation, wage and hour issues, discrimination, preparation of key employment documents, and legislative changes to State and Federal labor laws. Recently, Ms. Thompson was recognized by the Los Angeles Daily Journal as one of the 2024 Women of Influence in Law and also by Orange County Business Journal as a Top Litigator and Corporate Attorney in 2025.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
