Chumahan, the senior partner of Ovando Bowen, LLP, has a prestigious background. During law school, Chumahan apprenticed in litigation at a renowned class action firm. After passing the bar, he quickly advanced to become a litigation associate, gaining experience in appellate litigation. In fact, Chumahan's career trajectory was so impressive that he became a junior partner faster than any other associate in the firm's history. With a deep understanding of litigation, exceptional research skills and a visionary perspective on the future of the legal field, Chumahan decided to establish his own firm concentrating on business law and estate planning.
Chumahan is a dedicated member of CAALA, the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association, the National Native American Bar Association and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. Chumahan is licensed to practice in all federal courts.
Chumahan earned a B.A. in English from the University of California, Berkeley. During his time at Berkeley, he was honored with the James Phellon Fellowship. Following that, he pursued an M.F.A. in screenwriting at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and was awarded the prestigious Eydie Gorme Fellowship. Later, he obtained his J.D. from Pepperdine University. In addition to his academic achievements, Chumahan is a certified professional coach and leadership coach. He also holds a professional certificate from the Straus School of Dispute Resolution.
Chumahan is an American Indian from the Jamestown S'Kllalam Tribe and a member of the Oneida Tribe in Wisconsin. He was born in Orange County and grew up on the Puyallup Indian Reservation. Before becoming an attorney, he worked as a screenwriter and assistant to producers John Davis and Wyck Godfrey. His work will be published in an upcoming academic book titled "Tribal and the Cultural Legacy of Streetwear" edited by G. James Daichendt.
Chumahan is also involved in writing and developing film and documentary projects. Over the past decade, he has studied Lacanian psychoanalysis and is a fan of philosophers Slavoj Žižek and Graham Harman. Chumahan enjoys traveling, learning new languages (he has conversational Spanish skills) and being a father.
