    Hired Attorney 2024-2026
Avoid this firm! My Workers' Comp case has been dragging on for 22 months. After almost two years of waiting, I am still fighting for my money 77 days after the Judge signed the Order. What is most disgraceful is that Isabel Shiganian already secured her own legal fees, but completely failed to ensure I received my payment. She allowed the insurance company to send my settlement to an old address, even though I signed the final documents in her presence months ago at my new location. I was ignored and fed 'tomorrow' promises for months. Today, I had to personally drive to the Riverside District Office to fix her administrative mess. Even the Court Officers were shocked and outraged when they saw how she handled this. I have already obtained the Notice of Dismissal of Attorney forms. If my check is not in my hands this week, I will officially fire her and file a complaint with the State Bar of California for professional negligence. If you want a lawyer who cares about you and not just their commission, look elsewhere.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
