Overview

Heather Thielen is a Senior Attorney at Rossi Law Group, where she has practiced since joining the firm in 2018. She has extensive experience defending workers’ compensation matters at all stages of litigation and regularly appears before multiple WCAB offices, including Santa Barbara, Oxnard, Bakersfield, Van Nuys, Marina del Rey, Long Beach, Los Angeles, and Anaheim.

Heather earned her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She began her legal career working for an applicant-side firm while attending law school. After passing the California Bar, Heather became an associate attorney working in-house for a major insurance company. She later practiced at a large private law firm, where she gained substantial experience handling workers’ compensation cases from inception through resolution, including deposing applicants and medical providers, analyzing and rating medical reports, and representing a variety of insurance carriers before the WCAB.

Heather is admitted to practice before all California state courts and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. In addition to her litigation practice, she serves as an adjunct law professor, teaching legal writing to first-year law students.

Heather is also a founding member of Backyard Breasties, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting women during and after their breast cancer journey.

Outside of her practice, Heather enjoys reading, yoga, travel soccer, and spending time with her husband and two children.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
