I had a phenomenal experience with the law office of Butler, Thiessen & Metzinger, Inc. I was forced to deal with suddenly being served with divorce papers by my wife totally out of the blue after a 12-year marriage. After consulting a number of Family law sites, I came across Dianne Butler. She not only gave me excellent and very sound legal advice, but also was very patient in describing the process and expertly dealing with the shenanigans my ex and opposing counsel tried to pull. Although the process literally took years, Dianne was there every step of the way. As a man living in California where the divorce laws put us at a distinct disadvantage, I was constantly asked the question by friends and family, ?Do you trust your lawyer?? The answer was always overwhelmingly YES! This law office was always amazing. The knowledge and advice that Dianne and her team provided me during my experience was crucial in my case. It is also very evident with every interaction with Dianne Butler is intelligent, thoughtful, thorough, and professional. I could not recommend a better family law lawyer anywhere!"

If you are going through a custody battle, I highly recommend the attorneys at Butler, Thiessen, and Metzinger, Inc. From the moment you walk into the office, everyone is kind and makes you feel at ease. Lindsay gave me confidence in my case and kept me updated every step of the way. I never felt alone. That is very important when going to court. Let the attorneys do the heavy lifting and call Butler, Thiessen, and Metzinger.

Mrs. Butler and her team helped me through a long, complicated, and contentious divorce. They provided me with very competent representation and helped me to achieve the best possible outcome. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs help during what is a very challenging time.

This firm is outstanding! Our attorney Ms Metzinger and her team helped us throughout the entire process. They were able to give us peace of mind during such a difficult time in our lives. They were incredibly professional but also really took an interest in our family?s situation. There aren?t enough good things I can say about them, and our family is so grateful for everything they?ve done for us. I would never want to go through family court again, but if I had to I absolutely would choose Butler, Thiessen & Metzinger!

I filed for divorce in 2020, I had a previous attorney that I was not pleased with and when I had a consultation with Diane Butler and Lindsay Metzinger, they had reassured me of the next steps they would take, what they would have done with my case when it started and how they planned to proceed. This pleased me very well, I worked with their paralegals who were available and professional through out the whole process. My representation remained calm, informative, professional and understanding in and out of the courtroom. Seeing my representation Lindsay Metzinger work has been an honor and I am proud to say I am represented by this firm. They work in a timely manner and will take the time for their clients. They do their best to work in the best interest of who is involved. Divorce has been a gruesome and heartbreaking experience for me, having this firm as representation aided in many ways.

I contacted Stockton Family Law to help solidify a QDRO. The process is supposed to be quite simple if there is a judgement already in place. Most of the work was done with Moon & Swartz to write up the documents and the pension company to split the pension. I put a $2000 retain with Lindsey Metzinger and spent over the last year dwindling down my money. The pension has been divided and deducted from my retirement and still haven't received my retainer refund. Every time I contact her or the office I get some email back regarding pending documents and a $40 charge against my account for emailing me back. I’ve called and get another $40 email saying they’ll get back to me. Just the other day I received documents in the mail from them that were signed months ago. Yet still no retainer refund. I had to do most of the foot work with my pension company that supported me more than my attorney did and was free. I also found out they were emailing the respondent in my case instead of me with updates. I was really disappointed with their help in this case and was really hoping to hire them for other issues but I’ll be looking else in the future for representation.

Dianne office sent an inexperienced lawyer to my niece emergency hearing for her children. They gave the father temporary custody. My niece is a hard working mother with four children. She works full time not depending on the government for help, and paid for representation out of her pocket. Her children was taken, she still has to provide transportation when she visits. The inexperienced attorney did not bring up any of the important issues to help my niece. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND ANYONE TO THIS FIRM!!!!!!!

I highly recommend Dianne Drew Butler & associates to anyone who is trying to get there kids back or whatever it may be, she was highly professional and easy to work with. Everything went as she said it would and her associates were also very nice and helpful and walked me through everything I needed to know before court. The whole process took only a few weeks , and I got my kids back the same day right after court. Probably the best experience I have ever had with any lawyer in San Joaquin county, that's for sure.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
