Hired Attorney 2019-2020Josette is a 5-star lawyer! I hired Josette as my immigration lawyer to help with my green card application. I never regretted my decision as she turned out to be amazingly knowledgeable, always available to answer my questions or provide advice, and extremely pleasant to work with. She answered all my emails very promptly and in much more length that I expected. Additionally, she prepared all documents with great clarity and professionalism. I cannot highlight enough how happy I have been with hiring Josette. Her service was top notch and (at the same time!) very reasonably priced. I had conducted an extensive market review of immigration lawyer prices prior to committing to working with her and couldn’t believe her rates at first (found so many lawyers who were up to 3x more expensive and/or would not even have an initial consultation without a fee). With Josette, I was able to discuss the expectations in details before making any commitment. Having gone through the process (got my green card with no issue 1 year later), I understood the importance of working with someone who doesn’t count her hours since the process sometimes yield unexpected questions or paperwork. I can only very highly recommend her services.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
