Hired Attorney 2022-2023Hysumi Khoury is an excellent attorney and is always fair with her fees. Clearly as an attorney you can’t win every case because some cases are just that way. She represents her clients very well and is very knowledgeable. She must do well as an attorney as she is always very busy.

Hired Attorney 2021-2022I do not recommend Hysumi Khoury services. Everything looks good at the beginning but she is too busy. In my case, divorce w/minor and restraining order, she looked for money and delayed the process. I was very poorly advised due to their lack of time to dedicate to the case. She was very unprofessional when I removed the case from her office seeing no solution. Her professional fees were ridiculous for getting absolutely nothing (almost $8000). I filled out two restraining orders, but she avoided the court hearing by recommending to sign agreements with the respondent. Divorce case was filled out and five month later nothing move forward. Now, I removed my case from Hysumi Khoury office, I filled out a third restraining order by myself (it's free) because I really need to show my proofs in court (police officers recommendations) and I'm going to move forward the divorse case.

Hired Attorney 2018-2019I was referred by a friend to Naser because of a child custody case. I thought I was going to be working with Naser but was then directed to Hysumi who handles the Family Law cases. Immediately I was met with curt, disrespectful and impatient attitude. I thought it was just a norm for attorneys to be somewhat rude at the minimum since I had a client who was an attorney and pretty rude and potty mouth with a sense of humor. My daughter was wrongly taken from me for 3 weeks without due process, without going in front of a judge and without even me being able to defend myself and see any evidence. One good thing is that I got my daughter back just by being in front of a judge for less than 15 minutes and Hysumi talking. However I went from being able to spend quality time with my daughter alone and unsupervised since I'm a responsible parent to now needing a monitor/supervisor which Hysumi recommended to the judge and she did not even consult me on this nor provided me with a handout or coached me on how to dress, behave or what to expect in my first court hearing. Fortunately, a Step up plan slowly occurred where I gradually regained the visitation time I had with my child. Overall, Hysumi did not present herself as someone I could confide with as I noticed her predisposed beliefs that mothers automatically had more rights over the fathers even if the mother grossly committed heinous acts. I felt like a cheap and uncared for client and getting Hysumi's bare minimum effort and lack of compassion. I felt that sexism and racism may have been involved in her treatment of me and my very sensitive and emotional case. I just hope my daughter is not involved in another drug and alcohol induced car accident by her mother who I was trying to get Joint or sole legal and physical custody which Hysumi failed to do after I spent $5000.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
