Attorney Information

Overview

Alicyn B. Whitley joins Bowles and Verna LLP as an Associate Attorney, where her practice focuses on representing plaintiffs in personal injury litigation, including wrongful death and catastrophic injury matters. She is driven by a lifelong commitment to giving a voice to those who have been harmed, and she dedicates her career to helping injured clients and their families obtain justice and accountability.

Ms. Whitley has extensive experience litigating in both state and federal courts throughout California. She is admitted to practice before all California state courts, including the California Supreme Court, as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern, Central, and Eastern Districts of California. She has also appeared pro hac vice in multiple jurisdictions nationwide, serving as court-approved Class Counsel in complex litigation.

Before joining Bowles & Verna LLP, Ms. Whitley concentrated her practice on plaintiff-side class action litigation, representing clients in consumer protection, employment, and data breach matters. Earlier in her career, she practiced insurance defense, gaining valuable insight into defense strategies that now strengthens her work on behalf of injured plaintiffs.

Ms. Whitley earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, where she graduated in the top 7% of her class. During law school, she distinguished herself both academically and in leadership, earning the Dean’s Award for Scholarship and Leadership and completing a Business Law Specialization Certificate. She served as a Teaching Assistant, contributed to the Law Review, and honed her advocacy skills as a Moot Court Oral Advocate.

Before entering the legal profession, Ms. Whitley earned her bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, with an English minor, from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, graduating cum laude. She also worked as an anchor, reporter, and producer for Studio G, UNLV’s student-run news program. Earlier in her career, she worked in broadcast journalism, producing a top-rated morning news program in Las Vegas—a role that sharpened her skills in communication, deadlines, and public engagement.

At Bowles & Verna LLP, Ms. Whitley combines her litigation experience, courtroom skill, and deep compassion for her clients to pursue the best possible outcomes. She views the law not only as a profession, but as a calling: to advocate for those injured through no fault of their own and to share her knowledge to empower them throughout the legal process.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
