Attorney Information

Overview

Galvanized by family tradition, as well as an acute intellect, Brent Warkentine knew at an early age that his career goal was to practice law. While studying for his law degree at the University of Denver, Mr. Warkentine earned several honors, including an appointment as an editor of the University of Denver Law Review, a prestigious law journal published by the university's School of Law. After an initial clerkship with the Honorable Morris Sandstead of the Twentieth Judicial District, Mr. Warkentine joined the law firm of Warkentine Law Office and quickly developed an extensive knowledge and understanding of the complexities of family law.

Brent Warkentine joined his father’s practice in 1997. This partnership with Lee Warkentine presented an unparalleled legal environment for Brent Warkentine and his clients as the years of experience and depth of knowledge of the elder Warkentine were readily accessible. Further, the clients of Brent Warkentine also reaped the additional benefit of a fee schedule which is commensurate with Brent Warkentine's experience, and yet on a par with the legal representation provided by his now retired father.

Brent Warkentine stands apart from many other family law attorneys because of his extensive knowledge and expertise with regard to issues involving children, including such issues as parental responsibilities, parental decision making and parenting time, primary residential care and out-of-state relocations. Brent Warkentine is a trained and certified Child and Family Investigator. With this specialized knowledge comes an in-depth understanding of the child and family investigative process, as well as familiarity with the experts who are regularly retained to conduct such investigations. If this area of family law is of particular importance to you and the resolution of your dispute, the representation provided by Brent Warkentine may be the answer for you.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
