Ms. Greenwald is direct and knowledgeable about bankruptcy law. She makes sure that I am well informed about required information, timelines and case status. I really like the way that she handles the IRS and mortgage lenders. I am in an unfortunate situation, however, I am very fortunate to have Mindy as my attorney.

I would recommend Mindy Greenwald of Greenwald & Hammond, P.C. to anyone needing help with a bankruptcy. I had called the credit card companies trying to figure out a way to pay them and pay my bills. When that didn't work I was referred to Mindy by a friend of mine. I am so grateful to have her as my attorney. I was very stressed, not sure of how the process worked, and scared. Mindy was able to walk me through all of the steps. Her office was able to send things back and forth through email or fax, as I live on the eastern plains, she made it so I was able to get the proper material to her without having to drive to Denver. That would have been another cost and would have put me deeper in debt. She was with me for my court date and was even be available through email on the weekends when I had moments of panic. Again, I am so grateful to have her as my attorney and thankful for her compassion in someone who never meant to get into trouble financially, but struggled all the same. I would highly recommend her to anyone needing bankruptcy help.

When I first filed for my bankruptcy, I used another attorney, that during my process, had stopped practicing. I was recommended to Mindy and her firm by another friend who found her as he was in the same situation with his original attorney as I was. During that transition time, Mindy and her team reviewed what my previous attorney had done to make sure that all of my filings and creditors were complete in my documentation. Then I needed to buy a new vehicle and Mindy and her team worked with my Trustee to make that as smooth as possible also. During my chapter 13 filing, I surrendered my residance and the original loan had been sold again. The new lender did not comply with my chapter 13 filings and were sending me statements with amounts due and were calling me every day for months. Mindy and her team followed up with the new lender to inform them of my filing. Her firm has always been there for me for every question, document I get in the mail and whatever may arise that makes me feel uneasy. They are easy to talk to and a great team to get resolution on any matter I call her or Jesse with.

In our first consultation I appreciated that Mindy Greenwald gave me a straightforward, thorough presentation of the facts, details, ups/downs of filing bankruptcy. I left her office armed with the information I needed to make the decision about whether to do it, and which chapter. When I decided to proceed, Mindy, her assistant, and their own in-office system of checks and rechecks, helped me collect the background materials and complete other required tasks. As she had explained at the beginning, Mindy guided me through it all, appeared with me in the meeting of the creditors, filed all necessary paperwork, consulted with the court where necessary on my behalf. I liked that it was a flat fee to carry out everything, from beginning to end... also that she was accessible during the time of the process. In the end, thanks to her counsel, I was able to get myself straightened out financially. I am now repaying at a rate that will total a much lower debt than the amount I originally owed.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
