Attorney Information

Overview

Katie Mesner-Hage began her career at Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder in 2013 as the firm’s first Theodore I. Koskoff Public Interest Fellow, and then as an associate. With her blend of empathy for her clients and passion for justice, Katie quickly became a valuable asset to the firm. After several years pursuing other legal ventures, she was a welcome addition back to the Koskoff team in 2023.

During her fellowship, Katie became an integral member of the team that brought suit against the manufacturer, distributor, and seller of the weapon used in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on behalf of ten families. Katie was recognized by the Connecticut Law Tribune in its 2015 Personal Injury Hall of Fame for her work with Josh Koskoff in obtaining an 8 million dollar verdict against a physician who failed to diagnose and treat a patient's depression, resulting in his suicide.

Katie is a 2013 graduate of Yale Law School, where she was a finalist in the Harlan Fiske Stone Moot Court and a member of Yale's nationally-competitive Trial Advocacy Team. During her time at Yale, Katie worked with the Office of the Public Defender in New Haven and spent her summers in Louisiana and Texas representing indigent clients on death row. Katie was named a Connecticut Bar Foundation Fellow in recognition of her commitment to public interest law. In 2012, Katie served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Shira Scheindlin of the Southern District of New York. Prior to law school, Katie worked as a paralegal for a civil rights law firm in Washington D.C.

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
