Overview

Kenneshea joined Koskoff Koskoff & Bieder in the Fall of 2020 as a Theodore I. Koskoff Fellow. As a law student, she worked with her classmates to establish a more equitable distribution of scholarship and fellowship funding to address disparities that impacted Black students and students of color. Another one of her extracurricular activities was working on a team with the National Lawyers Guild Parole Preparation Project. This team worked with a parole applicant who secured his release on his first appearance before the NY Parole Board. In her second year of law school, Kenneshea joined the Defenders clinic at CUNY Law. Her docket included criminal defense work and creative advocacy to support a client seeking clemency. While in law school, Kenneshea received several fellowships and scholarships such as the NLG Haywood Burns Fellowship and the Commitment to Justice Scholarship from the Judicial Friends Association. Her passion for racial justice drives her work and she has interned at the Center for Constitutional Rights as an Ella Baker Fellow, NYC Commission on Human Rights, the National Labor Relations Board, Equal Justice Initiative, Legal Aid Society, and the Justice Initiative at the Open Society Foundations. During law school, Kenneshea worked as a Housing Outreach Specialist with Breaking Ground and as a Bluebook RA in the Writing Center at CUNY Law. Prior to law school, she worked as a Paralegal Advocate in the Housing Unit at Brooklyn Legal Services. Kenneshea is a proud native of Louisiana who loves creole food, family, & soul music.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
