Overview

Betty Ann Rogers focuses her practice in the areas of personal injury, medical malpractice, and civil litigation. She brings to her clients and the firm over 30 years of experience and a myriad of professional accomplishments. Prior to practicing law, Ms. Rogers was a well-known broadcast journalist at WICC in Bridgeport and Cablevision News 12.

Ms. Rogers has a successful track record both in the courtroom and settling cases prior to trial through mediation and binding arbitration. She has obtained compensation for clients who are no longer able to work, for clients who will need medical care for the rest of their lives, and for pain and suffering for clients whose lives have been permanently altered as the result of the negligence of others. As a litigator, Ms. Rogers has represented plaintiffs with serious injuries and permanent disabilities, including traumatic brain injuries, Erb's Palsy and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. She also handled numerous wrongful death claims resulting from medical malpractice, vehicular collisions, and other forms of negligence. Ms. Rogers was also a major player in obtaining a large jury verdict in the case of Oswald Carroll vs. Allstate Insurance Company for bad faith insurance practices. Ms. Rogers has a fervent belief in our civil justice system, and she has earned a reputation as a zealous advocate for her clients, both in and out of the courtroom. She has a devotion to her clients that is unmatched. Her compassion and appreciation for the challenges her clients face lead to positive results as well as a feeling of being understood and cared for.

A 1990 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Bridgeport School of Law and 1976 graduate of Fairfield University, Ms. Rogers was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1991.

Ms. Rogers is a member of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association and past member of their Board of Governors. She is active in the Women's Caucus of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association and the Litigation Section of Greater Bridgeport Bar Association. Since 2011, Attorney Rogers has been a member of the James W. Cooper Fellows of the Connecticut Bar Foundation. She is also a member of the American Association of Justice and has participated in the AAJ's Women Trial Lawyers Caucus Lobby Days--lobbying members of Connecticut's congressional delegation in Washington, DC on issues important to civil justice and to personal injury victims.

She has presented the seminar, "The Art and Science of Bringing and Defending a Personal Injury Claim" before the Connecticut Bar Association and "The Legal Consequences of Risky Behavior in Teenagers" at area high schools and she participated in a trial skills seminar for the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association on the "Rules and Statutes Governing Depositions." She assisted in the writing and editing of the textbook "Connecticut Torts: The Law and Practice", Second Edition, published by LexisNexis in 2015. Since 2000, she has also acted as a court-appointed fact finder/arbitrator for the Connecticut Superior Court. Ms. Rogers distinguished herself at the University of Bridgeport School of Law as an outstanding scholar, garnering several awards for academic achievement and serving as Research Editor of the school's Law Review journal. She is the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award in Trial Practice, Evidence, Civil Procedure, Family Law, and Trusts & Estates and also of the Kristin Ann Carveth Memorial Book Award in Family Law.

Your Profile?  Update Now

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
