I used Kevin for three yes three closings of mine. The first two went as planned but the last once did not. I was in a contract buying a property from another individual and no consideration was provided on my behalf. He did not fight for me to make sure that legally binding contracts and extensions were honored. I lost my rate in the process and ended up with a higher monthly mortgage because of his laziness. It wound up taking 2 1/2 months longer than originally agreed upon. The home was not clean (broom clean), I was forced into a rent back situation and forced to hold the seller harmless. Also the contract stated that the kitchen appliances would stay and the seller left with the countertop range, the microwave and the refrigerator! When the sellers returned it they left it out in the rain. I lost my all my food. Additionally, the seller left an unpaid water bill in which we agreed in writing would be read on the day that they left and it was not. I told Kevin about the water bill and he had the audacity to try and prorate it from the day of my closing 5/16-5/31. I was frustrated and could not understand why I’d be coming into a new house having to pay for their water! Kevin promised me at least 5 times in writing that he would pay it followed by several excuses and lies. I didn’t have the feeling I should’ve as a new homeowner again I wasn’t excited at all I felt USED! Needless to say I never received anything from the seller or Kevin for the water bill that was owed I had to take it as a lost like everything else. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN! I’d never recommend him or use him again.

Kevin caroll comes across as friendly and sociable in the beginning, JUST TO GET YOU TO BUSINESS WITH HIM; but in reality he is very unprofessional. He gave me a price on the phone so that I do the closing through him and then overcharged me at closing. I was never sent a closing statement prior to closing date, which i found unprofessional. When I noticed he charged me more on the closing date, I told him, and to get me to sign that day he said he will send me the overcharge afterwards. I then repeatedly contacted him and left messages with his secretary for months now he refuses to pay me what he owes me. He has been ignoring my calls ever since. Horrible attorney whose money hungry.!!!! Please do NOT do business with him!! There's many real estate attorneys in Hartford who are professional and courteous!!!

I worked with Kevin B. Carroll to close on a property this year. The attorney was very friendly. Unfortunately, I was never advised that a water bill was never paid. My house did not have water for an entire week as I was waiting for the check to be received by the city. The attorney never responded to my e-mails and ignored my phone calls. I had to pay for a old balance on a water bill in order for the city to turn on the water. Very irresponsible attorney. Please stay away. I never write bad reviews but this attorney has definitely upset me.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
